[Solved] No display for labels at hotspots, char dialog, inventory?

I'm following the old video tutorials which are working great. My hotspots are working, the sword gets picked up. However, I am not seeing these parts:

* No labels over hotspots (control panel, sword). The cursor changes to show possible interaction but there's no text.

* Character dialog (what button to press, I can't do that)

* No inventory shows across the top of the screen after the sword is picked up (no inventory bar at all)

I'm not sure if this is one problem or several. I suspect a setting somewhere but don't know where to look. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Update: reimporting Adventure Creator fixed it.
