Best practice for changing levels?

Hello! I've got a general question regarding what people do when switching levels. Let's say we've got a 2D game in which we've moved our character over to a doorway to enter a new room. Is it best to have this new room in an entirely different scene, and load the new scene on entering the doorway trigger, or is it better to set up a different level in the same scene, with its own background, camera, navmesh etc, and simply switch to these on entering the doorway trigger?

My game's in fairly early development so I'd like to get this right now rather than have to make loads of changes later. Thanks y'all!

  • The best way is to have different scenes for levels. Not that it only keeps your levels organised but it might also reduce your resource usage ( if you keep all levels inside one scene.)

  • Thanks SkyTree! I've started doing that and you're right, it's easy to organise things that way.
