Legacy of Svarog (Action RPG/Adventure game hybrid)

Hello everyone. I'd like to share the first level of my game "Legacy of Svarog".

Please be patient while letting it load as the game is not really meant to run on the web and will take some time to launch.

Legacy of Svarog is an Action RPG/Adventure game hybrid based on Slavic mythos. It is a heavily story driven game that relies on player choice. The tavern scene is build to represent the difference choices make in the game. For example, if you refuse to help prince Volga with his mission, you can send 1 of 3 other characters in your place. Only Vasilisa is currently implemented though, the other 2 refuse to go for now. If you choose not to send another character and just walk out, then prince Volga will have to play the mission himself. Unfortunately, his combat skills are weak, he's mainly good at diplomacy, and the game become quite difficult.

Adventure creator has been invaluable in setting up dialogue and choices. The Tavern scene is 100% Adventure creator, but I also use playmaker for combat and dungeons. The main character is a mecanim set up, so it is a simple matter to re-target the controller. I hope to post a demo for the playmaker real time combat sometime this week. I hope you enjoy it.

  • I like the concept, but ran into a number of issues while playing the tavern scene - or rather trying to. Would you be interested in detailed feedback at this point or is it still "work in progress"?
  • It's still a work in progress, but I am more than happy to hear feedback. Thanks for taking the time to test it. I haven't seen any issues on my end so I am quite curious as to the problems you ran into.
  • Will give it a go again tomorrow and PM you with info about the issues I had. It might get a bit lengthy for the forum.

    Right. I think the issues are most likely related to different browsers and possibly firewall settings. If you don't mind, I am going to make the game downloadable for Windows and Mac. Trying it then would be of more use.

    The game is not intended to be played over the web anyway.

  • I don't use Steam, you have to be online to play a game on your computer. I'd be interested if it
    was on itch.io though. Steam takes 30 percent, itch.io nothing, never could figure out Steam's appeal.
  • Thanks for the tip. I hadn't heard of itch.io before. I will certainly consider various distribution platforms once the game is complete (expected early 2016). Unless I am mistaken, I think itch.io is for fully completed games. Legacy of Svarog is still in the pre-alpha phase.

    Steam allows for a nice bouncing board to hear ideas and input from the players prior to release. Which was the primary reason I selected it to start.

    Great game though, love how you introduced things from your culture so subtle yet so powerful.

    I also hope that this can be purchased for winows or mac elsewhere than just Steam.
