Question about 2d backgrounds + 3d character

edited August 2014 in Technical Q&A
I'm planning to create a point-and-click game using Adventure Creator, with sidescrolling 2d backgrounds (with some parallax) combined with a 3d character. The character should also be able to move slightly in and out of the screen and behind certain objects (which are also in 2d). There will be no switching of backgrounds like Resident Evil and similar in a scene.

I've been trying to figure out how to do this, which camera settings to use and which tutorial to look at in order to understand the process.
So how do I go about creating this in the best/easiest way possible?

  • The regular GameCamera prefab (available in 3D perspective mode) has a "Side scrolling" movement setting.  That'll likely be your best bet: "true" 2D mode fakes depth by scaling character sprites, so I think you'll be better off in 3D mode.  Place your Cameras / CollisionCubes etc down as though you were making a 3D game, and add 2D sprites in around it.
