Multi-Language question concerning phonemes

Hello!
I've been building my game to include English, French, and Chinese.

The problem I have is that I am using the "text-to-speech" option to produce lip syncing. This works very well for English and French (my game is in pixel art). Unfortunately, the talking animations don't play when the language is Chinese. I guess this makes sense because the automated lip syncing utilizes phonemes.

Is there a workaround? For example, can the displayed text be Chinese while the lip syncing uses the English text?

I really would like to stick to text-to-speech if possible. Sorta stuck on this...

  • Are you able to get good results for the Chinese language if you amend your Phonemes to use Chinese characters in the editor?  If so, the best approach might be to have a script that dynamically switches them between the alphabet and Chinese characters when the language is changed at runtime.
