This was a fascinating evolution. One brother was an artist, the other was into computers. The computer brother said, "let's use the computer to make a digital book."
And they never made it past the first page.
They discovered a new medium where they could simply replace a part of the drawing with something else, and create interactive pictures, and they realized they weren't making a storybook anymore, they were creating worlds.

Thank you! It was interesting hearing the game design realities of not having a modern inventory system; I completely take having-an-inventory for granted, and yet they managed to work around having only a "1 item inventory." Hearing things like that helps me remember that no matter how frustrated I get trying to make my games today, I still have it way easier than those who came before
