I think it may have something to do with the Run in parallel action. If both of the actionlists has that action, something breaks when opening one from within the other.

How would I get menu elements to update based on the changed buttons?

I have labels on the ingame menu showing which button would activate different menus. These should be updated based on the player remapping.
How do I set up the parameter and transition correctly? I've been trying but for the life of me can't get it working properly. I'm using the downloadable first person player prefab as a base for my character.
Right, my first instinct was to fiddle around with the code. Do I still need my original code for it to work? I'm trying to see if the value changes in the animator window but I can't see any changes. I was looking at the wrong place apparently.
Another problem, I'm shifting through the inventory items but the selection apparently always selects the item that is first in the inventory, I'd like it to select whatever is shown in the bottom 3 slots at any time.
