Nevermind. Some change I made along the way moved the layer back to default. So for those playing at home the answer was "Doublecheck it is on the NavMesh layer"
Thanks! I could have sworn I unchecked that box. Any idea why the character insists on walking well above the floor (waist height) when moving to markers and then drops back to the floor when done? All walking is normal when pointing and clicking.
So that worked. Upon further inspection there were additional Models packed into the prefab from the Asset I used. Removing those let me assign the prefab as the player in settings. Never noticed that before. Thanks for your help!

Thanks, Chris! I knew it was something simple (like switching to Direct control and back to P&C without resetting the pathfinding method). Probably should stop making those decisions on so little sleep.
Never mind. I went on to other things and when I set the Default Player Start it added the setting for Default Camera. I guess there was some sort of dependency there I was unaware of.
