2D Sprite Does a U-Turn When Changing Directions

Hello! New to AC but loving it so far. Starting my first own project with it and experiencing a strange behavior with movement. I am using direct controls. When the character changes direction, they take a wide U-turn when going the opposite direction and a smaller U-turn when going left or right of their direction. I tried turning on retro-style movement, but the problem persists. I've followed tutorials making player movement and they don't seem to be having the same problem I am having. Any help would be appreciated!

    When using Direct control, the Player's movement when turning is set by the Turning mode field in the Settings Manager.

    Its default value, Turning Circle, will give U-turns. How wide this is will be set by how quickly they turn, i.e. the Turn speed value in the Player component.

    You can eliminate it altogether by setting the mode to Independent.
