Has anyone tried to make their character move in first person with true 3D movement; such as underwater or in space? I mean, so that the character can move towards your mouse look direction, instead of hard locked to the forward direction without accounting for the mouse vertical rotation. First person shooters always lock you into this type of movement, but I am hoping to rotate the character with the mouse vertical movement, instead of only the horizontal.

A custom motion controller would be the way to go - as with shooters, AC's first person mode only tilts the camera, not the root gameobject. If UFPS supports that kind of motion, that could be an option as well, as AC comes with an integration script for it.
