Editor Errors & Beginner Questions

Hi!

We recently purchased this plugin and it seems to do everything we will need for our game. However, we're running into some editors and also have a few beginner questions.

ERRORS

1. It seems that strings are appearing as a set of numbers. This is happening both in the editor and when the game is run. For example, the cursors are all listed like so:

Similarly, when we create things like Interactions, their names show up as numbers as well. For example, when we create a use interaction, it shows up like so:

This also affects the in game default menu. Instead of saying menu, it displays this:

2. There is an input error which I assume is related to the menu button functionality. Although, the input manager has this:

We're still getting this error. Again, related to error 1 where things seem to not have string labels:

3. When we're creating action lists or interactions and open the Action List Editor, it creates some errors:

BEGINNER QUESTIONS

1. Because of the scale of the provided, we have to scale it up in the scene. However, for example, despite changing the scale of the player sprite, it always resets itself to (1,1,1) when running the scene. Is there a way to handle this?

2. When transitioning to and from scenes, how would you force the player to start at a specific PlayerStart game object? We were only able to get as far as using an OnStart action list to check the previous scene, and then have the player moveTo a specific PlayerStart marker. However, this still firsts spawns the player at the default PlayerStart object because walking it to the one we want.

Thanks for the help!

  • Welcome to the community, @Osteel.

The Editor errors are, so far as I can tell, related to a Unity issue regarding your project's Asset Serialization mode (see this bug report in Unity's issue tracker).  If you can, go into your project settings and change the "Asset Serialization" to "Mixed" - though you'd have to re-import AC and rebuild your game's Managers afterwards to correct things completely.

To change the scale of your player, you can either change the Pixels Per Unit value in your sprites' import settings, or change the scale of the "sprite child" (as opposed to the root GameObject that contains the Player script component).

When transitioning to a new scene, AC will look for the most appropriate PlayerStart to make use of - and use the Default PlayerStart if none such is found.  A PlayerStart can be configured to work with a specific previous scene by viewing it's Inspector window.  Just enter in the name of the previous scene's name or build index, and AC will place the player there.
  • Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for the response.

It appears that the project is locked to use Force Text because we're using Unity collaborate. We might have to end up using another method of sharing the project ...

Thanks for answering the other questions.
  • No problem.  It's an unfortunate issue with Unity, to be sure.  Were it just a case of correcting the appropriate fields in the Menu and Cursor Managers, it would be annoying but simple enough to solve - the real issue is the issues when opening the ActionList Editor.  It seems Unity also rewrites internal string names as well as Editor-exposed ones.
