Changing a player or NPC speaker label.

Hello,

One small detail I would like to add to my game is that the player won't know the name of the NPCs until they learn what they are.  When the player first talks to the NPC I would like the speaker label to read "Unknown person" for example, and after they learn their name the engine could update the speaker label to their actual name.  I know it's a small detail but I think it adds a little more realism.  I have looked through the action list categories but I didn't see this option.  Does anyone know if there is a way to do this?

Thanks!
Jim

  • Welcome to the community, @Jim384.

The Character: Rename Action can be used to do this.  For it to work, place "Unknown person" in the NPC's Speaker label field, as this will be renamed instead of the GameObject name.

For the change to be reflected in save games, attach the Remember NPC component to the NPC's root object.
  • Great suggestion, thank you!
