First touch (click) doesn't work

I've encountered a strange behavior in my scenes and just can't work out what's going wrong. On iOS, the first touch the player makes (to a hotspot, or NPC etc) is not detected. Second one (and all following) is working though.

This does not affect UI elements, they are all instantly "touchable".

And it only occurs on iOS devices, when the game is running in Unity editor (and I click with the mouse), everything works as it should.

Any help/idea would be appreciated.

Comments

    1. What effect does temporarily switching back to Mouse And Keyboard input have?
    2. What effect does removing all UI/Menu elements from the scene have?  Assign a new "blank" Menu Manager asset file to remove your normal one
    3. Are you able to point-and-click move with the first tap?  You can temporarily switch to the Demo game via the top toolbar if your game doesn't use point-and-click movement.
