Essentially, when the scene changes, empty slots (null items) are replaced with "invisible" items with no label or texture. So far as I can tell, there's nothing at all in the code that makes this happen, so I'm guessing that this is due to some quirk ("feature") of Unity that I'm not familiar with.
I have a workaround that will fix it, but it won't be a simple change that I can post here - but this should be addressed in the next update. Thanks for your patience.
Can't say yet, there are other issues that currently need addressing beforehand. You can PM me with your invoice number for a personal package that addresses it in the meantime.
